10th Sindhupalchok
International Trail Race

A Decade of Trails, Tales, and Togetherness.

The 10th edition of the Sindhupalchok International Trail Race (SITR) will take place on September 20th, 2025. The 60 km runners will start from the village of Thulo Sirubari, where this beautiful race originated in 2015. The 28 km runners start from the Jalbire village, which is also checkpoint 3 of the 60 km race.

10 years ago, the first edition was organized in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, with Sindhupalchowk being one of the hardest hit areas in the country. With the local community taking up the organization and resourcing of the checkpoints, the race has become a permanent feature on the local event calendars. Each year, the race organizers and local communities will ensure that the race crosses have selected a cause to fundraise for; this includes temporary learning centers and materials, restoring access to water, and the establishment of a food bank. With floodings and landslides continuing to cause children to not go to school, the 10th edition is fundraising to supply the children in the schools along the racecourse with Edubags that allow them to continue their learning when having to stay home. You will receive more information through our social media and race briefs on how you can support us to reach our goal.

Cutoff Points

The only cutoff point is Checkpoint four (Jalbire) on the 33 km, where runners will need to arrive at the latest by 11:30 am (6 hours from the start). If runners do not make the cutoff time, we will consult with them and, based on this, decide whether they should continue. The early start will avoid runners and race crew being out on the trail after dark to the extent possible. Reflectors will be attached to the ribbons after the last checkpoint so that it will be easy for the last runners to find their way to the finish line.

Please make sure to see the GPX and PNG files of the route attached. We make an effort to ensure the route is well-marked. In addition, we advise you to download maps.me or wikiloc and upload the file into the map so you can at all times check where you are. Be aware that the internet at the starting point might not be good, so you would ideally download the app before getting on the bus.

Transport Plan

We have 3 buses leaving on Friday, September 19th at 11.30 am. The first two buses (one to the Thulo Sirubari 60 km starting point and one to the Jalbire 28 km starting point) will be leaving from Surakhutte bus station on the backside of Thamel.

The second bus will be leaving from the little square opposite the Top of the World Coffee shop just up the road from the British school.

You will receive a phone call on Friday morning to confirm which bus you will be on. It’s important for us to know so we can verify everyone is on board when we leave. It is about a 4-hour (Jalbire) / 5-hour (Thulo Sirubari). When you get on the bus, make sure you have the mandatory gear (see next page) and a sheet or sleeping bag (we will have piri foam mats available at the start, but you might like your own blanket) with you.

That one extra rupee for female podium finishers is our way of making a statement. Many races still offer higher cash prizes to male winners—we choose to flip that script.

We believe our male athletes are rockstars and will shine, but we also believe that true equality extends all the way to the podium.
