You will receive 3 ITRA Points on 60KM after finishing the race.
We loaded up a bus of runners, just months after the devastating earthquake, along with equipment to set up 6 temporary learning centers. This was the start of a beautiful race and a friendship for life between the organizers. Fast forwarding to 2023, the 9th edition of the Sindhupalchowk International Trail Race (SITR) will take place on September 21.
The 60 km runners will start from the village of Thulo Sirubari, where the race was originated in 2015. The 28 km runners start from the Jalbire village, which is also checkpoint 3 of the 60 km race.
After arriving in Thulo Sirubari and Jalbire, all runners will receive their starting kit and a good Dhal Bhat, after which your tent/room will be waiting for you for a much needed good night rest, followed by breakfast. This is not the easiest of races, but you will not regret getting to run the lesser travel paths with us and ending up in The Last Resort, where your finishing medals and lunch will be waiting for you.

Mandatory Gear
The race will be an amazing adventure, but the route and weather (both in terms of heat or rain) can be unforgiving. For this, it is important that you have made the necessary preparations. When you arrive to get on the bus on Friday September 20 you will be checked on having the required mandatory gear. Only after we have confirmed that you have the following items you can proceed to collect your Bib number:
Mandatory gear for 60 km:
Mandatory gear for 28 km:
Recommended gear for 28 km/60 km:
In addition to this, we would recommend you download the GPX file (send along with the briefing note). Please let us know if you have any questions on the kit and we are happy to advise. Only runners that have been confirmed having this kit will be provided with a bib and allowed to start the race the next day.
Creating a safe and supportive environment for women and girls to run is something we strongly believe in. We are always interested to see if there is anything that we can do to improve this in our races. If you have any suggestions or feel uncomfortable at any point, please let us know by sending a message to our Sindupalchowk facebook page or write a suggestion and put it in the suggestion box that will be in the award ceremony hall. You can of course always directly talk to any of the organizers as well if you are comfortable with that. There will also be sanitary products available for anyone that needs this at the start point and disposal at the finish of the race.
Music players are permitted, but competitors must be able to hear what is going on around you at all times. Earphones must be removed at checkpoints, and on segments as informed by the crew at the checkpoints.
The Sindhupalchowk trail is a route of outstanding beauty, and we try to ensure our race is well regarded by the local communities living near the route. To this end please make sure you do not drop any litter anywhere on the route, but that you carry it with you to the next checkpoint. The race is an event that especially children can get excited about while you are on the route. Please appreciate curiosity and take time to high five the girls and boys that might be waiting by the route. We would appreciate if you give children and anyone else your attention, respect and appreciation but nothing else in terms of items or money, as this might create expectations for the years to come.
The prizegiving will take place in the Last Resort at 3 pm on September 21. All participants will receive a medal and a certificate upon finishing. The top three female and male from both the 28 km and the 60 km will receive cash prices.
The 60 km race has been certified by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and will provide you three ITRA points
We hope you are as excited as we are, the trails have been lonely and can’t wait to welcome you back!
The following checkpoints/ supply points have been put in place along the route:
1. 6 km; Doduwa (water)
2. 12 km; Kotdada (banana, biscuits, water)
3. 19 km; Irkhu (fruit, water, biscuits)
4. 33 km Jalbire (soup, fruit, water) (Start of 28 KM)
5. 38 km Yanglakot (soup, water fruits) (CP 1 for 28KM)
6. 44 km: Deurali (water) (CP 2 for 28 KM)
7. 48 km; Ghumthang (soup, polenta, fruits, water) (CP 3 for 28 KM)
Cutoff Time
The only cut off point is Check point three (Jalbire) for 60 KM, where runners will need to reach at latest 11:30 am (6 hours from the start). If runners do not make the cut off time, we will consult with them and based on this decide whether they should continue. The early start will avoid runners and race crew to be out on the trail after dark to the extent possible. Reflectors will be attached to the ribbons after the last checkpoint so that it will be easy for the last runners to find their way to the finish line.

– Do I need a sleeping bag and mat?
You will be sleeping in tents and we will be providing a mat. For your own comfort, it would be good to bring your own sleeping mat to put on top of that and bring a sleeping bag or a blanket. It can get a little chilly at night as we are next to a river at the Jalbire start/ a little higher up at the 60 km start.
– Where do the busses leave from?
As mentioned, a bus will leave 11.30 from Sorakhutte to Sanepa. You can directly come to sanepa also. The bus will come to the top of the south side to make sure we can do a gear check for all 60 km runners and hand out their bibs. The gear check for the 28 km ill be done upon arrival in Jalbire.
– What happens with my bag after I start the race?
We will transport the bags after the race to the Last Resort, where they will be waiting for you at the finish line. You will also get a luggage tag for this at the time of the bib collection.
